Walking to War

Walking to War
-------------------------------------------------------------
ANZAC Day is coming around and during this time we give time to learn and reflect about those who served their country.
Since ANZAC day is coming up, we have been doing lot's of learning based on this topic. To complete this task there are four mini tasks we had to complete. The first one a Venn Diagram/Chart; about those who went to war, those who stayed home and the similarities between the two that were impacted.
The second was Synthesis; which is a rubric with questions we need to answer with information from articles provided.
The third was the Maori Battalion; which we had to read an article about and create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) to show what we've learnt.
And the final one (which I have previously completed) was the character web.
Here is the link to the Character Web post: Web Post

Here is the DLO's and Sheets I have completed.

I found this task very difficult to complete since there was so much work, but I enjoyed learning about the history of WW1.
(You may need to zoom in if you would like to read the Venn Diagram)

Did you have anyone in your past family go to war?
Did they recieve medals?

2d+3d Shapes

2d+3d Shapes
-------------------------------------------------------------
Carrying on with shapes, we were also set 2 tasks related to 2d and 3d shapes. For the first task we had to draw out a net (flattened shape) that is foldable to form a 3d shape; the second task was to take photo's of 10 different shaped items around our house and create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) showing this.
I found finding 10 different shapes around the house difficult, but I found creating the net quite simple.
Here is my DLO and photo's of my Net+Pyramid.

I enjoyed this task because I got to experiment with shapes and have a mini-scavenger hunt for items around my house!

Have you tried to make a shape using a net of your own?
Were you successful?

Shape Slide

Shape Slide
-------------------------------------------------------------
We have been learning about 2d and 3d shapes.
We went over a slide that had a list of shapes; we had to make a copy and fill in what shape we think it is, how many vertices it has, how many lines of symmetry and how many faces.
I thought this would be easy to name them but there were a few shapes that I didn't know the name of e.g: trapezoid.
Here is my slide:

I found this task a good recall to remember these shapes. Now I am working on the follow up where we have to create a DLO with 10 different items that are 3d shapes. I probably wouldn't remember some of the names of these shapes without this recall.

Can you find 10 different shapes in your houshold?

Character Web

Character Web
------------------------------------------
A character web is another way to plan a story or a characters traits.
This one of the tasks that we were set for the class. We had to create a Character Web for a daughter or a mother, from a poem we read. When we create our "web" we must use 10 words to describe our person and how they would be feeling. I chose to write my web for the daughter & from her view;
because I picture myself in the daughters view.
Here is my web & the link(The photo didn't come out well)

                Character Web Doc

I enjoyed this task because it was simple to complete but difficult to find the right words.

If you or someone in your family went to war,
how would you feel?

Kupu Words

Kupu Words
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------In Te Kahu we focus on many subjects; one of which is Te Reo.
In New Zealand, Maori kupu is an important part of
both our culture & our people.
For this task we have to name five items in our home using Maori Kupu, then create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) showing your findings. I changed my mind multiple times about what my DLO would be, until I settled on a google slide.
Here is my Slide with my Maori Kupu!

I enjoyed this task because my Whanau (family) helped me out + I really felt like I learnt something. I found this task lot's of fun & very educational; I hope to do more Te Reo tasks like this one.

Tika Task

Tika Task
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Pompallier Catholic School we have 4 values that the students follow by; These values are in both English and Maori:
Aroha / Love - Atawhai / Mercy - Pono / Truth
and Tika / Integrity.
This task is for R.E (Religious Education) which will be a good refreshment for one value in particular; Tika.
For this task we had to write our description of what integrity means & create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) about it.
Once we have completed that task, we were given another
semi-task to create one of many in a list; e.g a comic with someone showing how you can show integrity at home. I chose one task that I was really interested in: Illustrate a drawing representing one of these statements. The statement I chose was "Treat others as you would have them, to you", I chose this statement because I felt like I can relate to this topic.
Here is my DLO + Drawing

I chose to draw a scale with 2 different coloured-people because even though they are completely different on the scale they are both equal; I thought it fitted perfectly with the statement! For my DLO I decided to make a slide explaining what Integrity means, what someone with Integrity looks like & how important Integrity is; this task was much more difficult for me to explain, though I enjoyed it. I experimented with different sites & different tools for both of these tasks and found it quite enjoyable!

What does Integrity mean for you? Why?

Smoothie Time!

 Smoothie Time!
In Te Kahu our learning has shifted to be achievable for everyone while being in lock down; one task that we were set was Procedural Writing (step by step instructions).
For this task we were given the privilege to choose any sort of task & write instructions about how to do this task. After we have chosen a task & written specific instructions; then we have to provide a video showing us or someone using our instructions. Whaea Danni provided us with examples and afterwards we had to submit our videos to the teacher where she would send us a rubric back with our markings.
For this task I chose to make a healthy smoothie.

Here is my video & the marking rubric!

I had lot's of fun making this video & I am happy with my marks! I enjoyed making the smoothie and my whanau did too!

If you could teach someone how to do something, what would it be?

Home Design

Home Design
In Te Kahu Class we have been doing learning at home.
To fit with that, we have been learning about Area + Perimeter;
Using the knowledge that we gained, we have to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) like a google drawing of our house including the area and perimeter of it.
Here is my DLO.

My dad is a builder and he really helped me measure the house & rooms, it took us 10 minutes just to measure every room which was really quick. I really enjoyed this task because I got to go outside, and because I felt like I really got into the learning. I hope that more of the learning at home will be as enjoyable as this was!

Do you know how big your house is?
Do you think you can measure your house in 10 mins or quicker?
