Seesaw Tasks

Seesaw Tasks

In Te Kahu class we have a specific app/website that we use to share learning/responses to tasks and to share information and photos to our families. This week we had 3 different tasks on seesaw and here is my response to one of them.
"Do I believe in myself?"
For this task we had to watch a short clip and respond to it by sharing if we believe in ourselves as well.
This is how I responded.
The image includes examples of times of when I need or do believe in myself. In my thinking bubbles are different words/sentences that I tell myself to believe in myself; like try your best,
you can do it, can not can't.

Do you believe in yourself?
If you do/don't why or why not?

Minecraft Model

                        Minecraft Model

In Te Kahu, we have a task where we have to build/construct a special landmark in minecraft ( minecraft is a video game that uses blocks instead of curves or natural shaping). For this task I chose to create The Great Wall of China, but it did take quite some time. It took a few tries before I was happy with how it would work, but I managed to finish it. Here is an image of my project

I am proud of what I created, and I enjoyed this task very much. I found it challenging at first to construct this but I later got the hang of it.

Would you do this challenge?
If so what would you build?

Digital Abstract

                         Digital Abstract

This week in Te Kahu we have a task on Seesaw (a site we use to post our learning on tasks) where we have to take a picture of something in our class enlarge it, or add filters to it on certain sites. I added a few filters to my image and it made a huge difference. It was challenging at first to think of something in our classroom to make abstract art out of, but later realized it doesn't even have to be abstract itself. A classmate had just took pictures of sand and concrete and enhanced the image, it turned out looking really cool with filters added. So I took a picture of wall decorations and added a few filters to it; this is what I ended out with!

I like my digital abstract art, and I enjoyed experimenting with filters along the way.
If you did this task, what would you do?
Would you add filters?

My Holiday!

                             My Holiday!

Something awesome I did over the holidays was when I went to Australia for an International Waka-Ama Race called the "Gubbi Gubbi Race". It was a long trip but it was quite relaxing. My team and I have been training all year for this trip and we were finally in Sunshine Coast for our big race!

The weather was scorching hot, it felt like everyday it continued to bake, but in our first hotel we were up at 7am in the morning and we were already swimming, it was awesome! The day came where we had to check out the lake to see where we would turn our waka (boat or canoe) but we ended up getting lost for 30 mins and it was hilarious! We came 1st & 2nd in all of our races, and came 4th in our finals. It was exciting and it was very intense because the competition we had were very tough and strong; but they were really polite and kind to us when we came off the lake. In Australia it was very because the motel we stayed in was really neat and it had a hot tub that we all just squezed into. It was relaxing because it was nice having everyone there together and it was bubbling hot! The motel we stayed in was also really really REALLY  high! It was scary at first but later we began to admire how high up we were. The floor me, my mum and my team stayed on was 45 floors high but my team manager and my Nana couldn't bare being that high up, so they stayed on floor 7 & 16. Also over the last few days we went to the theme parks Wet White Water World, and Dream World. We went on tall rides, scary rides and fast roller coasters! We spent all day there and it was lot's of fun we all enjoyed it!

After we got back from Australia we had to drive all the way back to Kaitaia from Auckland. It was stressful but we all made it home and it felt good to be back in NZ. When we arrived back home we all were glad to be back, especially the dog! He kept on jumping on everyone, barking and running around like crazy when we were all exhausted! We all ended up just going to sleep at 4pm because were so tired. I felt happy and proud about our races and to be back home!

What did you do over the holidays?
What was something relaxing/awesome or scary about your holiday?

Dot Art

                                Dot Art

This week in Te Kahu we've been working on our art for the Art and Cultural festival! For this activity we wanted to try a different technique, so we started to make dot art. Dot art is where you use cotton buds or dotting tools to make a silhouette of anything you wish. You can create a simple pattern, an animal or even an entire landscape. I decided to make a Chinese dragon since it's also a cultural festival, I thought that this task was going to be easy but it turned out to be really stressful and messy! Since we had to work outside we were all squashed on 2 small tables in the boiling hot sun, so if anyone moved their arms it would effect everyone else and smudge their paint. Everyone was worrying about their art because it would take so long just to paint on every single dot that no-one wanted to restart. In the end my artwork turned out pretty good and I'm glad it's over. Here is my template of my Chinese dragon!

If you did this art with us, what would you pick for your art?
Why would you pick that?

Wordy Drawings

                     Wordy Drawings

This week in Te Kahu, on our Literacy contract we had a task where we had to create a drawing that describes a word you have chosen or draw what you think matches that word. My word I have chosen is "quaint"After we have chosen a word we would then have to find the definition of the word and then write a sentence. I chose this word because I never really use this word in speaking or in my writing so I thought that using this word would increase my vocabulary and it might help me a little bit more when I am trying to describe something. For my chosen word I decided to draw a picture that goes with a sentence that includes the word quaint. My sentence is " A quaint cottage in the countryside." To create our drawing we were given the options out of Seesaw (another source that we use to share our learning with whanau) or we could use google drawings. Seesaw is more preferably easier for me so I chose to use the drawing tool on Seesaw. I am proud of how I drew my picture on seesaw and I enjoyed this task because now I use this word more often in my writing. I hope we can do more tasks like this so I can learn more words and improve my vocabulary even more!

If you did this task what word would you have chosen? Why?
If you did what would you draw?

Crazy Cardioid

                         Crazy Cardioid

This week in Te Kahu, on Monday we learnt how to draw a cardioid. ( a cardioid is a curved heart shaped drawing which is hand drawn and made by using times tables.) For this task we had to fill in a small chart and each number in the chart went up to the number 60. Under those numbers 1-60 we would write down multiples of 2, for a starter the we would match up the numbers in the chart to the numbers on our circular template. When we were matching up the lines with the numbers we just had to go with what the chart said and pay careful attention to the numbers we were matching up. I made a few mistakes during this step, I would accidentally match up the wrong numbers which could've ruined my finished product but luckily I noticed my mistake and I fixed it. In the end it turned out better than I expected and it was much simpler then I thought. After we had finished and we had gotten a feel for it, we then had to turn the page over to another template and create another one but using different number times tables if we wanted otherwise we could just colour it in. I decided to try and draw another one, so I chose to multiples of 3, which is called a Nephroid. After I had finished I was happy with my end results. I enjoyed this task it was quite easy and fun at the same time. Here are some examples of Cardioids and Nephroids.

Would you do this task?
Would you colour yours, or create another one?

This is a Cardioid.

Animation Time!

                        Animation Time!

This week in Te Kahu, we have a task on our Literacy contract that we had to complete. We have two weeks to get these tasks done but I got this task done on Monday, the success criteria was to create an animation presenting our findings on anything we have found out. To find our information we needed to have a few questions and see which one we were interested in most, I always wondered "How did a single asteroid wipe the dinosaurs?" I had fun creating this animation, and I like to think of it as a fun but challenging task. Here is my animation, and feel free to give me and feed back or feed forward. Enjoy!

What would you make an animation about? Why?

Keyhole Art

                           Keyhole Art

This week in Te Kahu, we have been getting creative with art, we were given a piece of paper with a keyhole picture on it and our task was to draw any sort of picture we would like to inside the Keyhole. Our aim was to draw what we would think we would see through that keyhole, or what we hoped we would see. We were allowed to view some references for an example or for ideas to get us thinking creatively. For my keyhole art piece I drew a dragon in a treasure trove, but i didn't look at any examples because i had planned what i was going to draw. I drew this picture because I love dragons and magical things and places. So I thought that if I looked through a keyhole I would see this dragon in its treasure trove protecting it's prized possessions.  Here are some images of keyhole art. I really enjoyed doing this task it was a lot of fun and I hope we can do more tasks like this.

If you did this task what would you draw/see?

Matariki slide

         Collaborative Matariki Slide

This is my Matariki slide, on our wk 8/9 contract we had a task on literacy where we had to create a presentation on Matariki that was thorough but for a 1/2 yr audience. I decided to join in a collaborative slide that a few other class mates of mine were doing. Here is our final presentation and I hope you enjoy!

Is there anything else we could've added to our slide?
Any Feedback?
If you made a presentation for a 1/2 yr audience, what would your topic be?

Matariki Wordle

                       Matariki Wordle

This is my Matariki wordle. For literacy, we had a task where we had to create a wordle. (A wordle is a picture that includes multiple words that are related to a theme example = love.) These wordles had to include 20 words or more that are related to Matariki, due to Matariki being around the corner. I enjoyed learning how to create this wordle, and I personally would love to create more in the future. I am looking forward to Matariki, and I hope we can do more learning around Matariki before it ends.

If you created a wordle, what would your theme be?

How many words would you include?

Should girls be allowed to play on boys sports teams?

Should girls be allowed to play on boys sports teams?

This week we are learning how to write a persuasive argument. We were given a list of topics to choose from, and my topic I chose is ´Should girls be allowed to play on boys sports teams?´ This is why I totally agree!

Should girls be allowed to play on boys sports teams? Yes, I strongly agree! Just because of gender differences, that doesn't mean that girls shouldn´t and can´t play on boys sports teams.

Gender differences don't really make a difference! If a girl wants to, they should be allowed to play. Without feeling ashamed, embarrassed or nervous about playing because  they´re a girl. Also, if girls and boys play together and socialize it could make them them aware of how girls take things in, and how boys take things in less seriously. Another reason is if girls play on boys sports teams they can be included in more sports such as rugby, touch, rippa rugby, soccer etc meaning they can get into more sports teams as well.

It´s fun to be competitive, even for girls itÅ› fun! So if girls were allowed to play in boys sports teams, then they could have fun, competitive games with others. Girls would have a fun time playing competitively against other boys, and playing against other people of other genders and playing against opposite genders can really get you motivated to play!

Don't you love to play, and be included? Well itÅ› the same for girls. Girls deserve a chance! All girls deserve a chance, just because we're girls it doesn't mean that we only want to shop, brush hair, dress up, draw cute stuff and talk, we also like to have fun and get in on the action! We also like to play sports and run around. Girls just need a second chance!

This is why I strongly agree that girls should be allowed to play on boys sports teams. Gender differences don't  matter, it's fun to be competitive and girls deserve a chance!

This is my piece of writing and I hope you enjoyed it! Do you agree that girls should be allowed to play on boys sports teams? If you don´t agree then why not?

Bully Free Week

                    Bully Free Poster

Last week was Bully Free week, so as a task for Bully Free week we created a poster to promote it through our class and school which will be displayed in our school library. This poster informs you on what bullying is and how to prevent bullying, the criteria was to create an eye-catching, informative, creative poster which could be a collaborative poster or personal. This is my poster that I created collaboratively with other class mates.

I really enjoyed creating this poster, and I hope this poster can convince others that bullying shouldn't be happening in our school.
Have you ever been bullied, or have seen it happen?
If so, what do you think you could do to prevent it from happening?

ANZAC Soldier Uniform

               ANZAC Soldier Uniform

This week for literacy, there was a task where you had to create and design a uniform for an ANZAC soldier going to war. For this task the criteria was to think about thickness and layers that a soldier would've worn but keeping creative and using your own ideas. So for this task, I have chosen to base my soldiers uniform on a gunner's uniform. Using a thick camouflage jacket, a thick pair of camouflage pants, a camouflage hard helmet, thick, hard leather black boots and small, brown heavy bags to carry around water bottles, extra bullets and food rations.
This is my soldier's uniform that I have designed.
This task was really simple and was loads of fun to do. This is what I pictured for a soldier to wear.
What would you picture a soldier wearing?

Term 2 Learning Goals

                                My Learning Goals

This Term I have new goals that I want to achieve, these goals include: Literacy,Maths and R.E (Religious Education).
Here are my 3 goals for the term.

Literacy:
This Term I want to work on my vocabulary so I can extend my sentences and use higher level words. I can do this by reading more at home and by thinking carefully about words I use.

Maths:
This Term for maths, I want to work on my fractions, decimals and measurement. I can do this by using different strategies and by practicing at home.

R.E
This term for R.E, I want to work on my reading so when I´m  reading the bible or scriptures I can pronounce words properly.
I can achieve this goal by reading the bible more and by sounding the words out aloud.

These were my goals for the term. Do you have any school goals that you want to achieve? If so what were they about, and how can you achieve that goal?

ANZAC Diamante Poem

            ANZAC Diamante Poem

This week we have been doing learning about ANZAC day, and we have been doing learning about ANZAC day with a little booklet based on ANZAC. There was one task in the booklet "Words of war" where we had to find a poem about ANZAC and answer questions about the poem. The poem I chose was called "The Red Poppy" and the poem read:

The red poppy is a symbol
To simply show we care
For all our fallen heroes
A loss we all share

The red poppy is a symbol
For many we have lost
In every conflict of war
Their valour at cost

The red poem is a symbol
Wear it with pride for them
As each and every year goes by
We shall remember them

I chose this poem because the words were very moving and using this poem we had a follow up task. Using the poem we chose, we had to create our own Diamante poem a diamante poem includes nouns, adjectives and verbs and the poem is set out like this:

noun
adjective adjective
verb verb verb
noun noun noun noun
verb verb verb
adjective adjective
noun

Using my chosen poem as an example, I created my own diamante   poem.

I hope you liked my post and have you ever written a poem before? If so what was it about?

2019 New Year, New Class, New Learning

                                2019

This year at Pompallier, I am a year 7 and I'm in a new class called Te Kahu. This year I'm super excited for all the new learning that we're going to be doing, and all the fun activities that we're going to do! I'm a white shirt this year and since I'm a senior now, I get to play in leadership roles such as:
  • House Captain - Leader of the House Group, sets up fun games for events and take charge on sports events.

  • S.C.T - Special Character Team, runs events, plans events and sets up fun activities for the school like disco's, Competitions, and sport events

  • Disciple - People who go around the school and sort out problems.
This year I enrolled in S.C.T because I have had lots of ideas that I wanted to do around the school when I was a junior, so I wanted to make them happen and make people smile. In S.C.T I am the secretary, which means that I write/type down all of our ideas, priorities and minutes (how long meetings take). I have also enrolled in being a Disciple, because I like sorting out problems, and I want our school to be a happy, safe and fair environment.

This year I am enjoying all the changes that have been made, and it's a privilege to be a senior in these leadership roles.
I have the rest of the year ahead of me, and it's going to be amazing!

-Tiana
